    Phan Dang Di  est né le 5 août 1976, à Nghe An. Diplômé de l'université de cinéma et de théâtre de Hanoï.  Il enseigne actuellement l'écriture et sa scénarisation. Ses premiers courts métrages " Lotu s " de 2005 et " Quand je suis 20 " en 2006 obtiennent des succès qui l'autorisent à tourner son premier long-métrage : Bi, n’aie pas peur !, puis Big Father, Small Father and Other Stories et Southeast Loves en 2011.

Après des études d'architecture à Zurich 1907, de peinture à Munich et Marburg 1909/12, le service militaire de 1913, la guerre de 14 l'engageront à se soigner en sanatorium ; suite à la maladie de bronches dont il a hérité de sa charge militante et militaire d'inspecteur des gaz sur le front est. Il en sortira mentalement comme un pacifiste convaincu de gauche. Après une nouvelle immersion dans la peinture, il rencontre la fréquence des image-lumière du cinématographe, il rompt avec le tableau peint au profit de la Peinture-Temps: la Malerei mit Zeit-bewegung  pour réaliser dans son studio les Opus. Lichtspiel Opus  I, II,  III, IV,  qui sont des courts-métrages abstraits de 100 000 images distribuées en couleurs et rythmes concrets qui lui permettront de se faire apprécier par le monde des arts, comme l'un des fondateurs des films : " absolu ".

    Lié aux engagements artistiques des années vingt, Walter Ruttmann rencontrera de nombreux artistes: Paul Klee, Lyonel Feininger, Fritz Lang avec lequel il collabore de 1922–24 pour des séquences à Nibelungen et Métropolis, Oscar Fishinger, Lore Ribbentrop-Leudesdorff sa collaboratrice pour Opus IV et autres films publicitaires, Lotte Reininger, Carl Koch, Berthold Bartosch avec lesquels il participera à la réalisation du Aventures du prince Ahmed de 1926, Karl Freund, et Carl Mayer qui l'entraineront à réaliser Berlin, symphonie d'une grande ville en 1927.

    Après sa visite en Russie soviétique 1928/29, L'année où il est acteur du film " À L'Assaut de La Sarraz " de Sergei M. Eisenstein, Ivor Montagu et Hans Richter, il rompt avec ses engagements de gauche pour se rapprocher, puis adhérer à l'idéologie du parti nazie. Il s'engage aux côtés de Leni Riefenstahl et de l'UFA-AG des films culturels, publicitaires, industriels reconnaissant les qualités du régime nationale nazie et réaliser des films de propagande.

    encore quelques cout-films et c'est l'accident sur le tournage d'un film sur le front russe. Amputé de la jambe, il sera rapatrié à Berlin où Walter Ruttmann décédera d'une embolie, le 15 juillet 1941
