The codex traces the development of the Fluxus art movement, from its beginning in 1961 to founder George Maciunas' death in 1978. This volume was compiled by the recognized authority in the field, Hendricks, and the majority of images are from the preeminent collection of Fluxus material, owned by Gilbert and Lila Silverman, Collection / Harry N. Abrams, Detroit and New York, 1995. The movement developed an ?anti-art' aesthetic under the leadership of George Maciunas. The collective staged several festivals throughout Europe and New York, with avant-garde performances often spilling out into the street. Some of the artists involved in the success of the art collective were Joseph Beuys, Yoko Ono and John Lennon, and Robert Watts. Today the movement still plays an important role in the defining of artists and the limits of art, as well as expanding the idea of what art can ultimately represent.Over 800 illustrations, with 68 plates in full color.
