Nous sommes heureux d'annoncer la participation de Seb Jarnot à Fontaine Miami Art Basel du 3 au 6 Décembre 2009. Fontaine a été lancé en Mars 2006 à New York dans le but d'obtenir un appui pour des galeries indépendantes. Le nom "Fountain" est un clin d'œil à la sculpture controversée de Marcel Duchamp* qui a secoué le monde l'art, et qui elle même en fut frappé pour une première fois par l'artiste, Pierre Pinoncelli*, à la fin du XX° siècle à Nîmes lors d'un collectif exposé. Dans la forme et l'esprit, les œuvres présentées au "Fontaine" se réfèrent à l'attitude du refus Made in Society of Independent Artists* de 1917 donc de l'avant-garde caustique, qui attire les mouches collectionneuses de l'internationale warrantage de Salon. Ici, à "Fontaine", les artistes et les marchands suceront chaleureusement tous les visiteurs libres de se tourner vers bassine marchande et artistique mise à dispositions.

*Les motifs plus précis invoqués pour refuser l'envoi de R. Mutt* (alias Marcel Duchamp, Rose Sélavy) auraient été : A) L'objet est « immoral et vulgaire » B) L'objet est un plagiat ou plutôt une « pièce commerciale ressortissant à l'art du plombier »

*Pierre Pinoncelli, dont la maman (comme celle de R-ose Sélavy) lui avait répété enfant de ne pas pisser à côté de la céramique blanche ; ne comprenait pas idiotie le "point extrême de l'imbécillité convulsive" des institutions muséalles à refuser une extension plombière.

We are pleased to announce our participation at Fountain Miami during Art Basel weekend December 3 to 6 2009 alongside Boltax Gallery, Brooklynite, Glowlab, Grace Exhibition Space, Greg Haberny, Jon Frum Foundation, Krasa Fine Art, Leo Kesting, Milk Gallery, Sara Nightingale and Super/Prime.

Fountain was launched in March 2006 in New York in an effort to leverage support for independent galleries overlooked by the larger, corporate-sponsored art fairs. The name “Fountain” is a nod to Marcel Duchamp’s controversial sculpture which shook up the art world when it was rejected by the Society of Artists’ exhibition in 1917. In form and spirit, the artwork exhibited at Fountain reflects the avant-garde attitude of the Dada art movement, while attracting the attention of the international clientele and top collectors who attend the more traditional fairs. Artnet describes Fountain: “Likeability and chutzpah used to be what art was about. That, and a little guerrilla mentality, which you had at Fountain in spades. This is the place where you reminisce about the good old days, when you did it yourself, when inspiration and magic struck like a bolt from the blue. Here at Fountain, the artists and dealers are hungry and they welcome all visitors warmly. They are having fun and that’s the vibe. I felt like sitting down, having a beer, and hanging.” Plum has said – “Extreme, grassroots, and black sheep are names that perhaps best describe Fountain. While other art exhibits are puppets to corporate culture, this show keeps it as real as they come”.
